This letterbox project has taken me around six months to complete. That’s working on retirement pace !!! ha. Being an ex Cabinetmaker it was good to get my teeth into it again. Even though it was a long project I enjoyed doing it. But my perfectionism has dropped off a bit, I let a few things go that I’d never let go. Thank goodness for putty and paint.
To start with I got two fence post and spliced them together, glued and bolted. Very strong joint.
Adding more to it has made it a wee bit heavier. It’s now starting to shape up Getting keen to have it finished.
Fully assembled, didn’t realize how heavy it was going to get. Just have to sand it up then it’ll be ready for painting. That part I’m not looking forward to it too much. One undercoat and two finish coats. Then a Black stripe down the middle of the front. After painting the Dove glued it on top with a clear sealant.
Job done, cemented in. Being a while since I’ve dug a hole, my steel bar seems to have got heavier !!! But now it’s in.
Now I can clean up the garage and get the car back in.
This will make the Post Lady happy as she use to have to ride her bike up the driveway. The last owner had the letterbox up on the House, but after some changing regulations, the letterbox has to be down by the roadside.
